Britons 'waste millions' on unused mobile calls

As many as 27 hours of phone calls are wasted each year by UK adults on a mobile phone contract, according to research by moneysupermarket.com.

This works out to 137 unused minutes on average every month, with an average of £250 of surplus mobile phone calls and text messages going to waste for each adult every year.

Around 45 per cent of adults do not use their full capacity of the allowances they receive with their mobile tariffs each month.

With an increase in the amount of phones that can access the internet, the need for a large amount of call time and texts is becoming less important.

Mike Wilson, manager of mobiles and broadband at moneysupermarket.com, said: "One of the best ways to do this is to asses what your monthly usage is and find a contract that suits you best."

To help consumers find the best possible deal on their mobile phones, moneysupermarket.com re-launched its mobile phone channel last month. The channel allows consumers to compare the cost of phones and tariffs across a variety of networks.
