Travel insurance increases for over 65s

More people of pensionable age are taking trips abroad, Age Concern has reported.

The group reported that last year sales of its Enterprises annual worldwide travel insurance product increased by 41 per cent.

This suggests that not only are pensioners planning to take holidays in far-flung destinations, they are planning to do so more than once a year.

Requests for winter sports cover have also increased by 20 per cent, indicating that more people are keeping active into their old age.

Insurance from Age Concern has been especially tailored for the over 65s, with no upper age limits on who can take out the policy.

Joe Young from Age Concern Insurance Services said: "As the population ages, we predict a travel boom which will see even more mature people exploring far flung destinations."

Consumer power among the older generation has seen a resurgence recently, with Age Concern estimating that the 'grey pound' is worth up to £100 billion annually.
