Northern Irish 'most likely' to switch bank accounts

Consumers in Northern Ireland are the least likely to stay with their bank if they are unhappy with the service, according to research by Which?.

It was found that 85 per cent of account holders in the country said that if they received bad service they would not hesitate to change to a new institution.

This figure is above the British average, with 68 per cent of people stating that they would leave their present account if they could find something better elsewhere.

Which? is set to hold a Big Banking Debate to discuss how banking should be regulated in the future, with 83 per cent of people thinking that the government should listen to consumers as well as the institutions before deciding on reforms.

Chief executive of Which? Peter Vicary-Smith said that it is the company's belief that people should get a say when they think they have received bad service or low rates on their savings.

Earlier this month, Which? stated that rebuilding trust with their customers should be the top priority for the high street banks.
