Bargain supermarkets 'gaining in popularity'

Cut-price supermarkets Aldi and Lidl are increasing in popularity among consumers, according to Which?.

Questioning shoppers on their levels of satisfaction with different stores, the organisation found that Waitrose came out on top with a rating of 79 per cent, with customers citing the quality of its food as a reason.

Marks and Spencer took the second position where people most enjoy doing their grocery shopping.

However, bargain stores Lidl and Aldi came in joint third position, scoring 61 per cent, with customers happy with the class of their produce, as well as the price.

Which? chief executive Peter Vicary-Smith commented that the results showed that supermarkets can offer good value food, without scrimping on quality.

Consumers who are looking for a break from cooking now have the option of finding a great new restaurant near to them with the Good Food app for the iPhone, Which? recently stated.
