More people 'could easily switch bank accounts'

More consumers would change their bank account if they were aware of how easy it was, it has been stated.

In research carried out by Which?, 79 per cent of people said that they had found the experience of switching to a new account 'very' or 'fairly' easy, according to James Daley, money editor at Which?.

Considering the number of complaints that the consumer body receives about poor service from banks, Mr Daley added that he was "disappointed" that more people did not attempt to go to a different institution.

In reality, it is straightforward for people to change their account, as he explained that most major banks now have switching departments that will help the process of moving to a new account go as smoothly as possible.

The view of Which? is backed up by recent studies by money.co.uk, which found that only seven per cent of people stated that they could completely trust their bank to provide them with a fair service.
