Which?: Big discounts from buying cars online

Customers who opt to buy their new cars online could be making big savings, according to Which? Car.

Describing the option as a "win-win situation", the consumer group stated that buying a car online as providing financial benefits as well as offering additional legal protection when compared with purchasing a vehicle from the forecourt.

After carrying out comparison research between online prices and the showroom, Which? Car found 12 out of 14 new cars cheaper online, with five of the models being offered for £5,000 less when bought over the web.

Buying online also offers the seven-day protection of the Distance Selling Regulations, when consumers can decide to reject the vehicle and get a refund.

Richard Headland, editor of Which? Car, said: "Not only can buyers find bargain prices online - without haggling with a salesperson - they have better legal rights too."

Consumers looking to save some money could also do so by switching their bank accounts, the financial watchdog recently reported.
