Andrew Hagger, spokesperson for moneynet.co.uk, says that unless the cash is to hand to make the purchase, it is better to shop around first for the cheapest possible deal.
For those who are considering buying with their credit card, he advises applying now for a balance transfer card to switch the balance over to a zero interest deal before the first payment is due.
He suggests zero per cent cards such as Virgin Money's 16-month deal and Santander's 15-month offer, but reminds those looking to change that there is a three per cent charge on shifting the balance.
Meanwhile, moneynet.co.uk recently stated that personal loan rates had hit a nine-year high, as the current financial hardships experienced by many meant there was less need for competition in the industry.
