M&S pet insurance: Women prefers pet to partners

Pet owners who have a romantic date planned this weekend would cancel it if their pet became ill, Marks and Spencer pet insurance has found.

Animal lovers would rather stay at home with their poorly pets than go out for the evening with their partner, according to 63 per cent of the brand's respondents.

It was also revealed that 52 per cent of women prefer their furry friend to their partner and 42 per cent of people overall would choose their animal if their loved one stated it was a choice between them or the pet.

David Wells, head of insurance at Marks and Spencer, said: "When a new partner comes along it is not surprising that they need to love the pet as much as the person."

Pet insurance holders with Marks and Spencer may not have to face that choice as the policy offers a 24-hour advice line, meaning they may still be able to go out even if their four-legged friend is sick.

Romantic people have also been in touch with the insurance provider before Valentine's Day, prompting a rush in demand for wedding insurance.
