Tax reclaim deadline reminder

HM Revenue & Customs has reminded Brits that they only have a month left to reclaim tax from 2004/05 due to a change in the deadlines, with the organisation stating that they do not want anyone left out of pocket.

Brian Redford, deputy director of intermediaries and external communication at the organisation, explained that it is important to the industry body to see that everyone is given all the money they are entitled to from previous tax years.

He noted: "There is only one month to go before there are new deadlines for re-claiming tax - with the time limits for claiming tax back changing from six to four years."

As a result of the change in deadlines, anybody who wants to claim for the year 2004/05 needs to apply by March 31st, while those who need to file a application for 2005/06 should do so before April 5th this year.

The organisation recently announced that it received a record number of taxpayer self-assessment forms online this year, with nearly 6.5 million individuals filing their return on the internet.
