Santander Zero Current Account access expanded

Since its launch at the start of January, only mortgage customers have been able to access the product, but from Monday March 8th anybody with a Santander investment deal will be allowed.

The lender claimed that approximately 60 per cent of current account holders in the UK could now qualify for the fee-free banking it offers and Santander UK's director of retail products Vim Maru suggested "millions" could make the change over.

"I encourage every one of them to visit a Santander branch, visit us online or call us, to discuss how they can take advantage of our free switching service and start to save money on their banking," he remarked.

The extension of the Zero Current Account product comes two weeks after the launch of HSBC's latest premium current account, Advance, the monthly fee of which is discounted to £6 for the first three months.
