SHIP equity release offers safer option for retirement, says provider

Andrea Rozario, director general of SHIP, said there was an "urgent need" to support the equity release market and encourage public support in the process.

She added: "Last night's all party parliamentary group produced some excellent debate, recognising the financial challenges that Britain's older generations face."

Ms Rozario suggested that this was the "first vital step" to making equity release a major topic for government discussion.

According to the National Association of Pension Funds only 34 per cent of retirees were confident their pension will provide financial security when they grow older.

However, 44 per cent of people still believed it was the best way to save for retirement whereas only 18 per cent thought property was a viable option.
