Smokers 'can save almost £2,000 on life insurance'

Ben Heffer, insight analyst at Defaqto, said that the average 25-year-old male who smokes will pay 62 per cent more on his life insurance bill for £100,000 of assurance.

He added that the £5 to £7 average cost a non-smoker pays per month would be doubled to £11 to £12 if they were a smoker, a difference equivalent to the price of a packet of 20 cigarettes.

Mr Heffer advised people to be truthful when filling out an application form and declare any history of smoking in the last 12 months, otherwise their policy would be considered invalid.

"Smokers should also be aware that there are still some savings to be had with the right providers for efforts to give up or stop," he remarked.

The National No Smoking Day will take place tomorrow (March 10th).
