Barclays contactless card is 'the future'

Head of debit cards for Barclays, Brian Cunnington, said the bank's relationship with such companies will benefit from the new card which allows a "practical alternative" to cheque and cash payments, which ensures keeping track of transactions is easier than before.

Marc O'Brien, managing director of Visa UK congratulated the new scheme and declared that both Barclays and Barclaycard have led the industry with this new form of purchasing.

He added: "We firmly believe that contactless is the future of payment technology. 2010 looks set to be a major year - we expect millions more customers will be issued with contactless-enabled cards."

All Barclays customers will be re-issued with the new card which now provides an extended £15 limit on all transactions within the month.

It is expected that more retailers will join the new contactless trend, which is currently supported by 20,000 terminals across the country.
