Pension plan named number one advice driver

Unbiased.co.uk found 39 per cent of consumers looked for independent advice on personal retirement planning in February, while 28 per cent of searches to its website were for an independent financial adviser specialising in pensions planning.

Karen Barrett, chief executive of unbiased.co.uk, welcomed the increase in people looking for pensions planning advice and warned those who continue to delay that their pension pot may be smaller as a result.

She said: "Only an independent financial adviser can give you specialist advice on specific product areas and can recommend solutions from across the whole of the market, rather than just a selection of providers."

Safe Home Income Plans, the trade body for equity release product providers, recently said nearly a third of Britons turn to the internet for financial advice, while just eight per cent visit IFAs to help them manage their money and plan for retirement.
