AXA Wealth gives advice to confused babyboomers

David Thompson, managing director for wealth investments and distribution for the branch, said advisers have never had a more necessary role in helping people fulfil their financial ambitions.

He said: "Quality financial advice is a necessity when it comes to ensuring finances are fit for the retirement journey."

A survey conducted by YouGov found this generation is ill-equipped to prepare for the financial security it is likely to expect because people are living much longer than before.

It found only three in ten babyboomers had organised their retirement, despite nine in ten thinking a basic state pension would not provide enough wealth to live on.

According to Safe Home Income Plans, 70 per cent of people believe the government could do more to teach them about pension planning.

The same study showed that only 17 per cent of those worried about future finances had called upon the help of an independent adviser.
