Leeds Building Society Isa services open on Good Friday

The start of the tax year falls on the Easter bank holiday and to ensure customers can make transactions before the deadline, client support systems will remain in operation until 14:00 BST.

Paul Kaye, general manager of sales for the organisation, encouraged people who currently did not have an account to choose from the company's product range for this tax year.

He said: "With the [interest] rate remaining at 4.6 per cent, the five-year product ... offers clients somewhere to fix their Isa funds or transfer previous years' allowances for a longer term."

According to Alistair Darling's Budget announcement, the £10,200 Isa limit will rise annually with inflation, which is a decision that has been met with applause from many in the personal finance industry.

Tony Vine-Lott, director general of the Tax Incentivised Savings Association, said this would allow savers to plan with more certainty.
