Aviva Health Insurance warning prepares employers for Fit Note

Due to be launched on April 6th, the new type of sick note is expected to reduce the cost of absenteeism for a company and collectively save £240 million for the economy in the next decade.

Phil Grace, liability risk manager for Aviva, suggested employers will need to facilitate this new system, which requires a store for confidential information.

He added: "Fit Notes require changes to workplace and work processes and will involve those in charge of the operation of the business to have an understanding of what has been suggested by the GP."

The insurance company recently found that 61 per cent of people believed the high rate of sick-leave cases was specifically a business matter and almost a quarter claimed the recession was a cause of stress.
