Travel Insurance cutbacks are a "false economy"

Bob Atkinson, travel insurance specialist at moneysupermarket.com, warns customers that nobody can foresee what mishaps may occur when away during Easter and so it is easier to safeguard your valuables, rather than leave yourself vulnerable to the unpredictable.

He added: "Forgoing travel insurance for a UK break could be a costly false economy. You never know what is waiting around the corner to spoil your break away."

Moneysupermarket's research found that 49 per cent of people would choose to not protect their belongings when travelling around the country, although standard cover starts from £10 with YourTravelCover.com.

Santander recently announced that motorways will be congested by the bank holiday traffic this weekend and a quarter of cars will be without car breakdown cover.

However, the bank offers free breakdown cover with its car insurance policies, including nationwide recovery and emergency travel or accommodation while travelling within the country.
