BT off-peak will change, warns expert

Bill payers will lose an hour of free evening calls from 18:00 to 19:00 (BST).

Gareth Kloet, head of utilities at Confused.com, said many customers will not have heard the news, which is in part caused by a weak BT marketing strategy.

He said: "We are all guilty of putting letters from utility companies to one side and forgetting about them, so the message may have been lost. More aggressive publicity would have been better."

The change will mean customers can still talk after 19:00 BST for free and the comparison website estimates the new off-peak rate will affect 4.7 million people on BT's Evening and Weekend plan.

Customers could benefit from an all-inclusive phone, broadband and digital TV service, according to broadbandchoices.co.uk.

It was found by the website that people paying for broadband could save £210 per year if they 'bundled' their services under a single supplier.
