Home insurance monthly payments 'needn't be costly'

Julie Owens, head of home insurance at moneysupermarket.com, said it was "crucial" customers compared offers within the market to achieve the best deal and recommended paying monthly fees with a zero per cent interest credit card.

She added: "Brits would be able to pay for their policy in monthly instalments without paying interest. There are a number of zero per cent purchase cards on the market for up to 12 months."

Customers who chose to pay for their cover each month were given an additional charge of between ten per cent on average and 22 per cent for the service, according to the comparison website.

The new 25 per cent discounted offer to all polices launched by Direct Line is one of the ranges which currently charges monthly interest if customers decide to spread out the payment.
