Clydesdale and Yorkshire Bank reports 'failed lessons of recession'

Although 41 per cent of people in their twenties decided to defer leaving home, 81 per cent of older consumers said they would not decide to put off life-changing financial plans, such as marriage or having children.

Andrew Hagger, spokesperson for moneynet.co.uk, was disappointed that people in general had not altered their attitude towards money.

He said: "It is quite surprising because it has been such a hard recession and probably one of the toughest that some people have experienced."

Moreover, Steve Reid, retail director at Clydesdale and Yorkshire Bank, recommended customers should adopt a pattern of regular saving, providing "a financial cushion to fall back on" when times were hard.

The price comparison website uSwitch.com recently found that 5.4 million adults spend beyond their means and 15 million consumers will be worse off in 2010 than last year.
