Be aware of health issues abroad, says Axa Insurance

Axa Insurance has recommended that people heading abroad should try and be aware of the health issues they may encounter during their trip.

The firm offered several tips as part of advice for people travelling to South Africa for the Fifa World Cup in June, such as being sure not to drink excessively or stay out in the sun too long.

Head of travel at Axa Insurance Alison Patrick suggested that taking out insurance can help to mitigate the risk of something bad happening.

The financial services provider pointed out that some of the biggest threats that visitors to South Africa may face are contaminated food bought from street vendors, as well as malaria and HIV/AIDs.

Ms Patrick commented: "At a big event like this, the potential for things to go wrong are even higher than on a regular holiday - we anticipate one in 18 people might end up in a situation where they could claim."

The World Cup begins on June 11th with the hosts taking on Mexico in Johannesburg.
