Travel insurance firms disappoint moneysupermarket.com

Price comparison website moneysupermarket.com has suggested it has been dismayed by how many of the companies in the travel insurance industry have reacted to this week's air travel disruption.

A volcanic dust cloud from Iceland grounded UK flights on Thursday (April 15th) and Friday, but despite the situation continuing for more than 24 hours, a lot of major firms have yet to clarify their stance, travel spokesman Bob Atkinson said.

"The majority still haven't developed a position on how they will handle any claims," he commented. "I would have hoped insurers would have contingencies in place for such events, no matter how unexpected."

Last month, Mr Atkinson urged holidaymakers to consider taking out travel cover before going away, as the consequences of a disaster occurring could be very costly.

However, it remains to be seen if and how thousands of UK vacationers will be compensated following this week's airport chaos.
