Confused.com calls for insurers to "do the decent thing"

Price comparison site Confused.com has stated that it is disappointed in the way that some travel insurance providers have behaved with regards to the volcanic ash cloud and its effect on people's travel plans.

Steve Williams, head of travel insurance at the firm, pointed out that we are now in the sixth day of this situation and there is still confusion about where people stand.

He stressed that insurance companies must make their position clear as soon as possible, since the disruption is likely to continue.

"We are calling for insurers to do the decent thing and at the very least give customers' peace of mind that this unique situation will not leave them out of pocket," added Mr Williams.

In his view, it is disappointing to hear that not all insurers are willing to cover the incident.

Earlier today, BBC News confirmed that some planes have begun to take off again from Edinburgh and Glasgow, but a new ash cloud could halt any further plans for UK air travel.
