NatWest says expats weathering financial storm

Expats are weathering the financial storm better than Brits living at home, according to a new report by NatWest, with salaries found to be higher abroad.

Dave Isley, head of NatWest International Personal Banking, pointed out that fewer British people living overseas plan on returning home now than a few years ago and this suggests that life in a foreign country is becoming more appealing.

Research by the firm found that 90 per cent of expats are financially secure and only 19 per cent intend on coming home, compared to 26 per cent in 2008.

"Our Quality of Life study incorporates expats' real life perceptions and experiences and gauges their personal assessment - satisfaction or dissatisfaction - with their circumstances abroad," remarked Mr Isley.

NatWest recently revealed that any of its customers stranded abroad due to the recent volcanic ash cloud can expect to receive refunds on any cash withdrawals they make.
