IMA highlights strength of UK investments

The Investment Managers Association (IMA) has stated that the UK is now an attractive place for investment funds to be domiciled due to a series of changes to the system in which they operate.

Speaking at the 3rd Annual Global Financial Services Centre Conference in Dublin this week, director of authorised funds & tax at the industry body Julie Patterson explained that there used to be a lack of consultation between government officials and representatives from the funds industry.

In her view, the system in place was also too complex, but she lauded a "new dialogue" that has opened up and highlighted the importance of several changes to legislation.

Ms Patterson listed: "The introduction of tax-efficient securities and property funds, certainty that authorised funds are taxed as investing not trading and a workable regime for institutional funds."

This week, director of corporate governance at the IMA Liz Murrall noted the significance of having good governance of UK companies, but stressed that flexibility is vital too.
