Consumers 'can save money switching to Halifax current account'

Consumers who take the time to switch to a Halifax current account may be able to take advantage of favourable introductory deals, according to research.

Independent financial research company Defaqto has suggested that account holders who are reluctant to switch providers because they do not want to interfere with their direct debits may be missing out on good deals.

It identified the Halifax Reward Current Account and Santander Preferred In-Credit Rate Account as examples of options which offer introductory rates that are better than many savings accounts.

David Black, banking specialist at Defaqto, said that consumers should therefore try not to be wary of the switching process, as the banks themselves will take responsibility for complications such as transferring direct debits.

He added: "Consumers should look at their current account and see if they can get a better deal elsewhere."

Earlier this year, Defaqto called on consumers to consider the added value options attached to many current accounts carefully, to ensure they are not paying extra for something they do not need.
