Interactive Investor highlights "unprecedented series of events"

Private investors in the UK are having to deal with a level of uncertainty in the markets that is making the situation volatile in the industry, according to Interactive Investor.

Rebecca O'Keeffe, head of investment at the firm, claimed that many individuals are sticking to what they know, buying shares in banks like Lloyds and RBS.

She pointed out that the economic situation in Greece, the state of commodities markets, the general election in the UK and a fall in the US stock market are combining to make a difficult investment landscape.

"It is an extremely tough period for private investors who are dealing with an almost unprecedented series of events both at a national and international level," explained Ms O'Keeffe.

Interactive Investor reported that some of the other companies that featured in the top ten buys leading up to Friday May 7th included Tesco, BP and Yell Group.

Last month, the firm noted that there has been an increase in uptake of Isas among private investors.
