Aviva insurance highlights impact of long-term illness

People who suffer from long-term illnesses often have to deal with many other issues outside of the condition, a representative from Aviva insurance has asserted.

Senior proposition development manager at Aviva Health UK Kevin Murdoch made his comments after research by the organisation found that 78 per cent of UK employees would be prepared to go back to work before they had recovered from an illness if they were struggling financially.

He noted that this can often be the case if the bread winner in a house is affected, as the whole family will feel the effects of the situation.

"The knock on effects in terms of increased stress and financial worries can at times be as hard to cope with as the actual condition itself," noted Mr Murdoch.

Aviva insurance's research also showed that 68 per cent of respondents felt that family finances are the key concern when a person is off sick.

The firm also reported recently that 86 per cent of people believe that NHS waiting lists are currently too long.
