HSBC S&P 500 ETF 'brings new choice'

Investors are offered more choice when they sign up for the HSBC S&P 500 Exchange Traded Fund (ETF), says a representative from the firm.

Farley Thomas, head of ETFs at the company, made his remarks after the launch of the HSBC S&P 500 ETF on the London Stock Exchange, which offers individuals total exposure to the S&P 500 index.

This covers 500 of the largest businesses in the US economy and about 75 per cent of the equities market in the States.

Mr Thomas pointed out that the product can be traded in the same way as any other stock - except without stamp duty - and can be included in an Isa.

He explained: "The launch of the HSBC S&P 500 ETF brings choice for investors with a highly competitive total expense ratio of just 0.15 per cent."

Last week, the firm's global asset management arm revealed that it has made five new appointments, with Braam Hanekom, Caroline Lambert, Haijian Fan, Jeremy Peng and Manfred Lam all joining the team in a variety of roles.
