Saga calls for government action on social care

Action is required by the government over the payment of social care personal budgets, according to a representative from the Saga Group.

Emma Soames, editor-at-large at Saga Magazine and champion for older people, made her comments in response to the news that a commission on social care has been appointed.

In her view, this decision should be welcomed and she acknowledged how complex an issue it is, but she said there has been a significant amount of research carried out on the topic and now action is required.

Ms Soames remarked: "We hope that a deadline for delivery will be swift to ensure security for so many older people already providing or facing a future requiring different levels of care."

The Saga Magazine representative recently claimed the over-50s do not want to be left out of politics and are in agreement with several proposals put forward by the new coalition government, such as restoring the link between pensions and earning.
