Santander Zero Current Account 'could offer World Cup savings'

Football fans heading to the World Cup could make savings by signing up to the Santander Zero Current Account, according to a representative from the bank.

Nici Audhlam-Gardiner, director of banking at the firm, highlighted the 5,000 SA rand (£450) restriction on cash being brought into South Africa and noted many individuals will need to take out more money while they are abroad.

She pointed out that many accounts will charge a foreign exchange fee and a cash handling charge for withdrawing cash from ATMs overseas.

However, Ms Audhlam-Gardiner noted this is not the case with the Santander Zero Current Account, which does not charge such levies.

"People should be aware that they can save themselves a lot of money if they have a debit card that allows free ATM access and no charges on debit card transactions worldwide," she explained.

This month, it was confirmed that Alliance & Leicester banking customers will be transferred to Santander from May 28th.
