Confused.com insurance highlights expense for young drivers

Young drivers end up paying high premiums for taking out cover on their cars, says Confused.com insurance, but there are ways to bring this expense down.

Some tips offered by the company include considering a third party fire and theft policy if a car is not worth a great deal and building up a no claims discount.

Will Thomas, head of motor insurance at the website, said: "With the cost of motoring rocketing in 2010, ways to reduce the outlay are on everyone's minds."

According to Confused.com insurance, taking a Pass Plus exam can also lead to lower premiums, with male motorists potentially saving more than £1,000 by the time they reach 25 by passing this test.

The firm unveiled these recommendations after revealing that the Vauxhall Corsa is the most popular first car for new drivers.

It recently pointed out that people should check their insurance policies to check if they are covered in case of accidentally misfuelling a car.
