Festivals are prime opportunities for thieves, claims moneysupermarket.com insurance

Many people may be going to festivals in the UK or abroad this summer to have fun, but they should also keep in mind that thieves may be on the lookout for valuable items to steal, a spokesperson for moneysupermarket.com insurance has warned.

Head of home insurance at the price comparison site Julie Owens suggested people are better safe than sorry and could cover their phone or mp3 player for relatively little cost.

She explained that people can fall victim to theft while they are at festivals and the peace of mind offered by insurance means it is money well spent.

"Tents can be left unguarded for hours at a time, so while it's essential not to leave valuables lying around, it is also important to check your insurance will cover you if necessary," noted Ms Owens.

Last month, moneysupermarket.com insurance revealed that 250,000 homeowners have not taken out a policy on their houses.
