Defaqto: Travel insurance inclusion affected by living situation

Families heading abroad this summer may wish to check their travel insurance terms, advises Defaqto.

The organisation pointed out that some policies will not cover an adult's children if they usually live with the person's ex-spouse.

Head of research at Defaqto Brian Brown explained that people who are not married and have children should also have a look to ensure they are protected when they head overseas.

"It's imperative that parents check the detail of their travel insurance policies to ensure that they have the cover they need before travelling," he said.

Mr Brown stated that many travel insurers will tend to cover a child under a family policy if they live with the adult in question.

For example, research by the firm showed that 99.5 per cent of insurance products cover step-children living with the main policyholder.

This week, Defaqto claimed that demand for travel insurance has fallen, which it put down to the state of the economy.
