Chelsea savings account unveiled

Chelsea Building Society has unveiled a new savings account.

The account, which offers a variable interest rate of 5.2 per cent, can be opened in any of the building society's branches and then operated by phone or post.

Kerri Morgan, senior investment marketing manager, commented: "This new product demonstrates the Society's commitment to launching an account that gives customers a high rate of interest."

The launch of the new account comes as the government seeks to encourage more people to save for the future.

More and more people are now getting into debt, which is a major concern for both the government and the financial services industry.
