AA pet insurance finds most popular animal names

Customers with AA pet insurance may find that that their cat or dog has one of the most popular names for animals in the UK.

A review of the 16,000 animals that are covered by its policies found that the most popular name for four-legged friends in 2010 was Molly, which holds on to the top spot for the second year running.

Poppy also featured high on the list for both companions of the feline and canine variety, as did Charlie and Millie.

Some other names noted by the insurance company were clearly influenced by people's favourite footballers, such as Rooney and Defoe and even alcoholic drinks, with Guinness and Merlot making appearances.

Owners were reminded of the importance of getting their pet covered, as Joanne Guillan from AA's pet insurance stated: "There's no NHS for the canine and feline kingdoms."

Other subscribers to the company's policies were warned of rogue websites charging admin fees for booking driving tests for people.
