uSwitch.com predicts increase in tax on energy bills

The amount of tax that is levied on energy bills is predicted to double in cost in the next decade, according to uSwitch.com.

At the present rate, the price comparison website stated consumers are paying around £84 on top of their bills to fund the battle against climate change.

However, this sum could increase to £176 in the next ten years due to polices that were introduced by the previous government and a proposed levy on electricity bills which is currently being discussed by the Treasury.

Although consumers are concerned about the impact on the environment caused by fuel consumption, a poll from the website found that 44 per cent feel it has to be balanced with the effect it will have on an individuals' bills.

The cost of insurance could also rise by around £8 following the announcement in the Budget that insurance premium tax would be increased.
