F&C Investments banking lauds Brazil economic performance

Although Brazil may not have done as well in the Fifa World Cup as some anticipated, the country's economy is still a big favourite among investors, says F&C Investments banking.

Mike Woodward, head of investment trusts at the firm, explained that - as an emerging market - the South American nation's stockmarket is likely to be volatile, but it has plenty of potential.

He said: "Our investors are still keen on the emerging markets story and are not alone in tipping the Brazilian stockmarket for great things over the next few years."

In his view, it may not be advisable to concentrate on specialist Brazil investments, as four years is a fairly short time in terms of equities.

Instead, Mr Woodward recommended adopting a more globally diversified portfolio.

The Brazilian football team were knocked out of the World Cup by Holland in the quarter-finals 2-1, despite taking the lead initially.

Holland face Spain in the final on Sunday (July 11th).
