BIS credit report agreement 'highly beneficial for consumers'

A Department for Business, Innovation and Skills (BIS) credit report agreement should prove to be beneficial for the public, according to a government source.

Edward Davey, consumer minister, explained that consumers will be able to take better control over their finances as a result of the move, which allows people to view their credit report online for £2.

The BIS credit report agreement applies to Experian, Callcredit and Equifax, which the government described as the three major UK credit reference agencies.

Mr Davey remarked: "All consumers now have easier access to their £2 statutory credit reports, with victims of ID fraud and the financially vulnerable receiving free access to their reports."

All of this will prove to be highly beneficial for consumers, he added.

Last week, the BIS business secretary Vince Cable described it as extremely disappointing news that the WTO Boeing subsidies report had been delayed, since it is the latest in a series of setbacks.
