Check your policy details, urges moneysupermarket.com insurance

Motorbike owners should take a look at their policy details before putting their riding gear on and hitting the open road, according to moneysupermarket.com insurance.

The comparison site's insurance expert Steve Sweeney advised that individuals contact their insurer if they are not certain about what they are covered for.

He noted that trips to mainland Europe may not be covered within a normal policy, which puts people at risk if they have an accident on the continent.

In addition, the moneysupermarket.com insurance spokesperson explained that a rider's leathers, helmet and gloves are not always included within a policy either.

"Unfortunately, modifying your bike will often mean your premiums rise, but you still need to let your insurer know. If you make any modification, you need to tell your insurer straight away," added Mr Sweeney.

The same organisation recently advised people against auto-renewing their home insurance, since it claimed that they could save up to £132 by shopping around.
