Sainsbury's Finance loans stresses benefits of haggling

Steve Baillie, head of the company's loans division, made his comments after research by the firm showed that a failure to haggle could be costing up to £163 million a year when purchasing new vehicles.
He pointed out that the car scrappage scheme and low VAT rate are over, so it is important for people to find ways of cutting costs.
The Sainsbury's Finance loans study also found that the number of people intending to haggle hard or very hard over the price of their next car has increased from 52 per cent to 59 per cent over the past nine months.
"It is pleasing to see that more car buyers are prepared to haggle than previously - we have been encouraging people to haggle for years," added Mr Baillie.
The car scrappage scheme was originally planned to run from May 2009 until March 2010.
