Tesco Bank encourages financial education for children

Financial education for children is important and it is great that parents are speaking to their youngsters about such issues, according to a healthcare professional working alongside Tesco Bank.

Child psychologist Dr Elizabeth Kilbey suggested speaking to kids about finance from a young age, since she claimed this sort of knowledge is best learnt then.

In her view, it is important children understand that parents must work to provide for them, but this can be taught to them in a fun way.

"You can never start financial education early enough in a child's life and this approach is by far the best way to teach children good habits," noted Dr Kilbey.

Tesco Bank research indicated that 71 per cent of parents ask their youngsters for help around the house in return for their weekly pocket money.

Last month, the firm revealed that many fathers appear to be clinging on to their adolescence when it comes to gifts they would like, with gadgets such as the iPad and the Nintendo DS coming near the top of the list.
