Repairing subsidence damage can be pricey, says M&S Money insurance

Homeowners should be aware that it may cost them a significant amount of cash if they have to fix the damage caused by subsidence, an expert from M&S Money insurance has claimed.

Head of general insurance at the organisation Andrew Ferguson made his comments after the firm highlighted Met Office statistics regarding January to June of this year, which showed the lowest amount of rainfall - 356.8 mm - since 1929.

Mr Ferguson noted that this summer is set to be relatively dry as well, meaning that the conditions are ripe for subsidence problems.

He said: "Repairing the damage caused by subsidence can cost thousands of pounds, so it's vital to know the early signs to look out for."

This week, M&S Money insurance advised pet owners that the dry conditions could also affect their animal companions, with dogs at risk of suffering from heat stroke as a result.

It recommended keeping fresh water nearby at all times to prevent the canine from suffering from the illness.
