Insurance for young drivers provider Endsleigh notes gadget issue

Endsleigh has highlighted the high value of possessions that students are taking to university with them, with laptops proving to be the most popular.

Portable computers were not the only expensive item to be transported up to their new residence, with 93 per cent of people in this demographic having mobile phones and 73 per cent owning mp3 players.

The firm claimed that the average student will take more than £4,000 worth of equipment - including musical instruments and sports gear - when they leave home to go to university.

"A student cycling into university carrying their laptop, mobile phone, MP3 player and books while wearing a watch and typically valued clothes would have an average of £1,305 worth of possessions on them," the insurance provider noted.

This week, Halifax claimed that it is offering the best student bank account on the market, thanks to a £3,000 interest-free overdraft that individuals can enjoy for up to five years of their course and an extra year after graduation.
