Nationwide customers 'could qualify for higher current account interest rates'

Banking customers signing up for the Nationwide FlexAccount could qualify for better interest rates if they ensure that the product counts as their main account.

In order to do this, customers must have a Visa debit card with the service and have deposited £750 or more into it for the previous three months, according to the firm.

Better interest rates are not the only benefit that people could enjoy, with discounted fees and exclusive deals reserved for clients who use their FlexAccount in this way.

Nationwide has just unveiled a new website aimed at 16 to 24-year-olds, which offers a range of benefits for customers in that age group.

"Unlike some banks, which only offer lifestyle benefits through their current accounts to students, the Flex-Zone is available to all customers between 16 and 24," said divisional director of banking Graham Pilkington.

A recent survey by the company showed that consumers are becoming more pessimistic about their ability to save, with 21 per cent believing they will save less in six months time than they do now.
