Car insurance for young drivers provider M&S highlights security threats

M&S Insurance has urged customers to ensure their vehicles are secure when they are left unattended, since it could be important in the event of a claim.

Head of general insurance at the firm Andrew Ferguson stated that people put themselves at risk of having their policy invalidated by not locking windows and doors.

He pointed out that it is common for people to wind down car windows during the warmer months of the year, but it is vital to put them back up again when leaving the vehicle.

Mr Ferguson's comments were made after M&S Insurance announced that its research shows 56 per cent of consumers have been victims of car crime, despite a recent British Car Crime Survey indicating that such incidents have not been as common this year as in 2009.

"It is good to hear that car crime is falling, however it is always important to make sure vehicles are locked and secure," he added.

Recently, the company highlighted how the drier weather in parts of the UK may increase the number of home insurance claims relating to subsidence.
