Cash Isa provider Leeds Building Society makes football donation

Leeds Building Society has made a donation of more than £45,000 to Leeds United.

The Cash Isa provider presented the Championship football club with a cheque for £45,336 before their opening home match of the season against Derby County last Saturday (August 7th).

Since 1997, the building society has been contributing an annual donation that is equivalent to one per cent of the total balances held in its Leeds United Saver account.

The match at Elland Road, which was broadcast live by the BBC, saw Leeds beaten 2-1 by the visitors.

Head of marketing at Leeds Building Society Nigel Wray commented: "There was a great atmosphere in the stadium, with 26,000 enthusiastic fans cheering the team on."

He added that the company is "very keen to support grassroots sports in the areas within which we operate" and said the money will be used to help fund the development of young players at Leeds United.
