Credit card users urged to shop around for best supermarket prices

Credit card users who want to cut the amount they spend at the supermarket have been encouraged to shop around for the best prices.

According to the Institute of Grocery Distribution (IGD), most people have at least three different supermarkets within a 15-minute drive from their house.

As a result, it believes shoppers should take the opportunity to compare the prices at each store and work out which is most affordable.

James Walton, chief economist at the IGD, added that comparing the prices of products within an individual store could also be a good idea, as this would help consumers get the best deals on certain items.

"The good news is that shoppers themselves can actually do a lot to influence their own destiny," he commented.

Mr Walton was speaking after the Office for National Statistics reported that Consumer Price Inflation dropped from 3.2 per cent in June to 3.1 per cent last month.
