British drivers breaking the law overseas, says Sainsbury's Car Insurance

Sainsbury's Car Insurance has revealed that many motorists from the UK are breaking the law when driving overseas.

Research by the firm found that lots of car owners will not pack a warning triangle in their vehicles, even though this is a legal requirement in countries such as France.

The study also revealed that a high proportion will not carry documentation proving that they own the vehicle, which is also compulsory in some European nations.

This means that many of the 6.5 million British motorists who intend to take their cars overseas within the next year could end up inadvertently breaking the law.

Ben Tyte, manager of Sainsbury's Car Insurance, commented: "Drivers taking their cars abroad need to prepare, not just because they'll be driving on the other side of the road."

This comes after moneysupermarket.com urged motorists to check whether their car insurance policy is still valid if they are taking their vehicle overseas.
